Scientists have discovered a 30,000-year-old virus in the Arctic.
The new-old virus, known as Mollivirus sibericum, is gigantic, measuring 0.6 microns across. Part of its size has to do with the number of genes it packs, which is 500, compare that to a 9 gene HIV.
The ancient virus was uncovered by none other than melting ice caused by climate change.
Scientists say that there’s nothing to worry about for now, they’re going to confirm that the virus cannot spread to humans before they wake it.
