Description

As brain owners, most of our experience has to do with the active conscious states of mind, but what happens to these workings in suspended states such as when the brain is put under anesthetics? Although drug induced anesthesia has been practiced for the better part of two centuries, not a lot is understood about how it leads to such a profound loss of consciousness. In this talk, Prof. Brown will tell us about some of his recent work to identify distinctive brain patterns associated with different stages of general anesthesia and what impacts this could have on the more than 100,000 people in the US alone who receive anesthesia for surgical purposes each day.
